Pourquoi le chocolat est toxique chez le chien ? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

La toxicit\u00e9 du chocolat vient essentiellement de la th\u00e9obromine. Chez l\u2019homme, cette mol\u00e9cule est assimil\u00e9e rapidement par l\u2019organisme et ne pr\u00e9sente pas de danger. Chez le chien, la demi-vie (temps pour que la moiti\u00e9 soit \u00e9limin\u00e9e du corps) de la th\u00e9obromine reste dans l\u2019organisme environ huit fois plus longtemps. Elle a donc le temps d\u2019affecter le syst\u00e8me nerveux, les voies respiratoires et les voies urinaires. <\/span><\/p>\n

Quelle quantit\u00e9 de chocolat est dangereuse pour le chien ? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

La toxicit\u00e9 d\u00e9pend du poids du chien, de la quantit\u00e9 ing\u00e9r\u00e9e et du type de chocolat. Le cacao pur et le chocolat noir ont un taux de th\u00e9obromine plus \u00e9lev\u00e9, environ 5-15 mg\/g de chocolat et jusqu’\u00e0 28 mg\/g. Le chocolat au lait contient un taux faible (2 mg\/g) mais reste toxique s\u2019il est ing\u00e9r\u00e9 en grande quantit\u00e9. Le chocolat blanc quant \u00e0 lui ne contient pas de th\u00e9obromine mais est inadapt\u00e9 pour le chien. <\/span><\/p>\n

Il suffit parfois d\u2019une petite quantit\u00e9 ing\u00e9r\u00e9e par le chien pour qu\u2019il soit empoisonn\u00e9. Les sympt\u00f4mes de l\u2019intoxication apparaissent \u00e0 l\u2019ingestion de 20 mg de th\u00e9obromine par kilo de poids corporel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quels sont les sympt\u00f4mes d\u2019une intoxication ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Les sympt\u00f4mes ci-dessous apparaissent dans les heures qui suivent l\u2019ingestion et peuvent durer plusieurs jours : <\/span><\/p>\n

  • augmentation de la temp\u00e9rature <\/span><\/li>\n
  • vomissements et diarrh\u00e9e<\/span><\/li>\n
  • agitation, tremblements, raideurs musculaires, pertes d\u2019\u00e9quilibre<\/span><\/li>\n
  • augmentation de la fr\u00e9quence cardiaque voire arythmies cardiaques <\/span><\/li>\n
  • soif excessive<\/span><\/li>\n
  • besoin d\u2019uriner important<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    La plupart des intoxications sont aigu\u00ebs. Dans les cas les plus graves, l\u2019animal peut convulser et sombrer dans le coma. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Comment r\u00e9agir en cas d\u2019intoxication ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    • Premier r\u00e9flexe :<\/strong> <\/em>appelez votre v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire. <\/span><\/li>\n
    • Tentez de rassembler les informations :<\/strong> <\/em>quantit\u00e9 ing\u00e9r\u00e9e, type d\u2019aliments (chocolat, friandises, etc.), l’heure d’absorption, les effets constat\u00e9s sur l\u2019animal (vomissements, fi\u00e8vre, etc.).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
